MOST-KEIHEUVEL: NATURE RESTORATION ON THE GRADIENT FROM VEEN TO STUIFZAND (2012 – 2017)
This LIFE+ project in the municipality of Balen is concerned with restoring vital habitats in the scenic Veen/Stuifzand area, such as land dunes, heathland, quaking bogs and woods. It also aims to eliminate the so-called ‘fish migration bottlenecks’. Moreover, sustainable recreational facilities will be developed within the natural environment which will present an extra asset for tourism initiatives in the region.
Several partners are behind this project: the Agentschap voor Natuur en Bos, de dienst Integraal Waterbeleid of the Province of Antwerp, Bosgroep Zuiderkempen vzw and Kempens Landschap vzw.
Europe approved this LIFE+ project, which was officially launched on June 1st 2012 and runs until May 31st 2017. The costs total €4,095.945, of which Europe is paying half and the partners half.
