Jan Vlemincktoren
Poultry yard
The Jan Vlemincktoren is a remnant of a sixteenth-century castle with a moat and was transformed several times to adapt to the latest fashions. It is located in a historical park in the centre of the municipality of Wijnegem. The U-shaped building was originally part of the poultry yard of the castle and served as a dovecote, among other things. Its current appearance dates from around 1850, when it was converted into a ‘Romantic folly’. This style fit within the redesign of the surrounding park as an English landscape garden. In 1978, the Jan Vlemincktoren became a protected monument.
