Beddermolen with mill domain
Typical Campine mill yard
The story of the Beddermolen goes back to 1683, when a wooden windmill was built by the abbey of Tongerlo. In the vicinity of the mill, there was a mill house with a stable, barn and bakehouse in the 18th century. This ensemble of buildings and windmills is still intact today and forms an example, practically unique, of a typical Campine mill domain. The original mill was destroyed by lightning in 1963, but reconstructed in 1981. At present, you can only visit the mill domain occasionally, during events. The mill is currently being restored, after which you will once again be able to visit this industrial heritage.

The role of Kempens Landschap
Our organisation has owned the mill since 2011 and has owned and managed the domain and agricultural land since 2015. The domain of the Beddermolen has an important function within the Landinrichtingsproject De Merode, enabling the purchase to be made with the financial support of Flanders. Together with the municipality of Westerlo, Kempens Landschap will restore the entire complex and open it to the public. The domain will be a rural centre and gateway to the Merode area. This project is supported by Landinrichting, the agency Onroerend Erfgoed and the subsidy programme PDPO.
