Zwarte molen
A special house
Built in 1863, the stone mill was in use until the 1930s. After that, it was purchased by the architect Bergé. After a severe storm, the sails were removed and the remaining structure became a private residence. There is a garden of about 1 hectare surrounding the mill. This industrial heritage is not protected by law, though it is included in the inventory of built heritage drawn up by the agency Onroerend Erfgoed.
The role of Kempens Landschap
In 2016, the former owner, Mrs Maria Geentjens, gave the mill to our organisation. Mrs Geentjens can continue living in the mill as long as she wishes. In this way, the future of the mill and its surroundings is secured. With the donation, Kempens Landschap also undertook to respect the special character of the mill and its surroundings. No additional buildings will be erected on the domain, and its future use should take the surrounding landscape into account.
