Gemeentepark Boom
Along the Bosbeek
The municipal park of Boom, some 27 hectares, was formerly part of a larger forest. From 1925 onwards, it was partly transformed into a proper park. The triangular park is situated along the banks of the Bosbeek, which meanders through the landscape part of the domain. The park, however, is best known for its modernist garden with ponds containing sculptures by Georges Minne, among others. The municipal park of Boom was already protected as a landscape in 1940 for aesthetic reasons.
The role of Kempens Landschap
Our organisation advises the municipality of Boom so that it can manage the park holistically. For the restoration of the modernist garden, a management plan was initiated in which the park’s heritage value was also examined.
