Small-scale religious heritage

This wayside chapel on the Herentalsesteenweg in Heist-op-den-Berg was  built around 1860 in memory of the great-uncle of Mrs Maria Celen, who ended up in nearby Laak at night. Although it is a small chapel, it nevertheless has considerable impact on how you experience the landscape.

The role of Kempens Landschap

In 2009, Mrs Celen gave the chapel to our organisation so that it would be sure to be preserved. Together with Regionaal Landschap Rivierenland and the municipality, the chapel was restored in 2013. The surroundings of the building were given a makeover as well.
