Legendary forest

According to legend, a shepherd was healed in the 13th century after drinking from a spring here. To commemorate his recovery, a chapel and a Calvary were built. On the domain behind the chapel you will find a mere surrounded by extensive heaths and dry sand ridges. Hiking in this 10-hectare forest is especially pleasant!

The role of Kempens Landschap

In 2009, our organisation bought several parcels of this forest, located on the boundary between Herenthout and Nijlen. In this way, the forest can be opened to the public from the municipality of Herenthout. Moreover, the caravans that disrupted the landscape in this area were cleared away, making the Kruiskensberg much more agreeable.
