Prestigious boarding school

The Ursuline Institute is a domain in Sint-Katelijne-Waver. There used to be a convent with an international boarding school with pupils from around the world. From a small village school, the site evolved into an impressive educational institution where generations of girls were taught. The winter garden in the Art Nouveau style in particular speaks to the imagination. The complex still houses a high school, but some parts have been assigned a museum or cultural function.

The role of Kempens Landschap

Since 2011, our organisation has advised the different owners and stakeholders of the institute. In 2015, a non-profit foundation was established to administer the site. Kempens Landschap is also a member. In this way, the unity of the site is preserved and the SON can gradually take over the role of the nuns. In 2017, Kempens Landschap leased the patrimony of the non-profit organisation Wintertuin. We are also looking for new ways to repurpose this religious heritage – for example, in the completed European project Heritage Recycled.
